In April 2006, my daughter, Bianca, was born, and I decided to cut down
on the amount of time I was working in the office and instead work from
home to spend time with her.

Heading into the office before the sun came up and leaving when it was
dark seemed like a bad tradeoff - I'd rather spend more time with my
wife and daughter. But at the same time, I wasn't quite ready to take a
major paycut just because I worked from home, instead of the office.

I decided to look at work-at-home opportunities that would allow me to
generate a decent income and spend time with my family. I spent weeks
looking for the perfect business to run from my home. After reading
about people who made a full time living from their blogging efforts, I
decided to give blogging a try. It looked like the perfect online
business.

Listening to some self-professed blogging gurus, they claimed...

"Blogging Is Like Having A Personal ATM".
Were They Right?

Blogging looked like a surefire winner. Just write a bunch of clever
and funny stuff on a website and you will see crowds fighting each
other tooth-and-nail to head over to your blog, right?

sad I set up my first blog at Blogspot and spent about an hour each
day writing and publishing blog posts. I was expecting my bank account
to be overflowing with cash faster than you could say "show me the
money!"

I could not be more wrong. I made a grand total of $20 over 3 months.
And this could have come from friends who've visited the site and
clicked on the ads...

What a TOTAL failure...

Had I made a mistake? Did this internet stuff work?

I'm not one to give up though, so I spent the next couple of months,
reading up, testing various methods of generating traffic and income,
and spoke to a number of experienced bloggers to find out what made
them successful.

What I discovered surprised me...

But before we talk about that, let's look at some of the problems with
blogging...

It's Not Your Fault You Are Not A
Successful Blogger Yet!

I've been blogging about my experiences since July 2006 and receive
many emails with questions about become a successful blogger.

I'm sure everyone wants to be successful on the internet - it's a
matter of knowing what works and applying that information.

Yet many new bloggers face the same obstacles when they're starting
out. Here are some common problems they face:

* Lack of inspiration and no idea what topic to write on
* Low or no traffic coming to the blog
* Little technical skills in setting up and optimizing their blogs,
beyond the default installation
* Little or no familiarity with pinging their own posts or sending
trackbacks to related blogs
* Poor effectiveness in generating traffic to their blogs
* Facing an income ceiling and facing massive resistance in growing
blog income beyond $100 a month
* Difficulty in getting motivated to write new content past the first
2 weeks (ie Getting over the "honeymoon" effect)

their writing, resulting in flat, dull content
* Difficulty in getting their blog indexed regularly by the search
engines, even after writing regularly for a couple of months
* Generating blog income beyond just Google AdSense ads
* Understanding how to improve blog income by testing and tracking
blog effectiveness
* How to write better content
* Which enhancements, plugins, software to increase their blogging
productivity and reduce total time spent
* And much, much more...

And here is where a lot of people drop the ball when it comes to
becoming successful at blogging. A lot of people send me questions
about how to FTP files to their server or how to crop photos. As hard
as these challenges might be, they should not be a major focus if you
want to be successful. Forget about becoming a programmer or computer
expert.

Here's a tip to be successful: There are more important things that
will deposit cash into your bank account than knowing how to crop a
picture.

Fortunately, I have spent the last year studying the best-of-the-best
bloggers, researching and testing out what works and what doesn't work
when it comes to blogging. My findings were unexpected and contains a
number of surprises. But now I have it...

The best bloggers are the guys who can whip out the next "Harry Potter"
novel and stun you with their brilliant writing, right? Not quite...

The most successful bloggers don't just blog, they are pretty savvy
when it comes to create a strong presence on the internet. Take a look
